Mask-Friendly Makeup: Why it's Still Relevant
Masks & Makeup, An Unlikely Pair
When masks first came onto the scene in 2020, who would’ve guessed that they would still be this relevant, a whole year later? With the growing awareness about the benefits of masking, we’ve seen a big spike in the use of more decorative face masks to bring a little cheer and optimism to something that serves such a serious purpose. Vogue magazine recently featured a list of where to buy stylish masks and we’ve seen no end to the options for mask-friendly makeup as more places start to re-open.
After a year of learning — keep reading for our best tips for mask-friendly makeup.
EXFOLIATE!
The concept of exfoliating may not seem like it directly applies to makeup, but we promise it does. Having a smooth surface as your canvas will make a huge difference in the way your makeup applies and looks. Using a microdermabrasion scrub on a weekly basis will help your skin’s cellular turnover and the ability for your products to sink in. We like to apply in the following steps:
Exfoliate!
Apply Skincare
Apply Concealer or Foundation (Concealer for a really natural look or Foundation for a more full-glam look)
Move on to Eyes & Brows
Focus on the Eyes& Brows
Our favorite tip is an incredibly easy one… Just focus on the eyes! A great way to create a look that boosts your confidence and helps you feel seen even while wearing a mask is one that uses shimmery eyeshadow to complement our natural eye color. If you don’t have a brow gel, use a slim makeup brush and a brown shadow to lightly darken the brows. Then finish it off with a couple coats of our Lash Enhancing Mascara.
DON’t Forget the LIPS
While not everyone might be willing to take on wearing lipstick and a mask, we think the best option is to simply nourish your lips when wearing a mask. Our favorite Nourishing Lip Balm is a lightweight, hydrating and soothing option that is perfect for year-round protection.
