One of the Hottest Skincare Trends for 2021: the Microbiome

The Microbiome is Going Mainstream

A Balanced Microbiome is Key to Your Best Skin

We’ve always been proud to be part of the cutting edge in skincare. When we first launched TrūAura a few years ago, we developed our formulas to be comprehensive, future-thinking, and most of all, great for your skin.

As you start to see more people becoming aware of the amazing benefits of probiotics, you may also start seeing terms like ‘prebiotics’ and ‘postbiotics’ and wonder, do we include any of these ingredients in our products? The answer is YES!

Since we talk so often about probiotics, we thought it would be helpful to further breakdown prebiotics and postbiotics in this post.

Prebiotics

Prebiotics are compounds in food that help with the growth of beneficial flora (aka microorganisms) living on your skin. In order to stay healthy, your skin needs good flora. For example, one of the key ingredients in our core skincare line, Saccaharide Isomerate, is a 100% natural, plant-derived skin-identical carbohydrate complex (Prebiotic) that provides a unique binding mechanism with the skin to ensure deep, instant hydration for 72 hours. It strengthens and protects the skin, offering improvement in skin comfort and appearance.

Postbiotics

Postbiotics are soluble factors that are released by beneficial bacteria and have skin benefits. Ingredients such as lactic acid, enzymes and peptides are technically postbiotics. With the new awareness around the microbiome, expect to see familiar ingredients marketed by brands as ‘postbiotics’, but the truth is that they have been in forward-thinking formulations for quite some time.

More to come in 2021

We’re so excited to see the growth and awareness regarding the microbiome. Empowering people to have the healthiest version of their skin is what we’re all about and there’s so much more to come in this new year.
